Introducing From The Bronx's Unofficial Mascot: BOOGIE THE CAT!
Earlier this summer, we released a look at From The Bronx's unofficial mascot BOOGIE THE CAT. We brought to life a wise-cracking, fun-loving, smoke-filled bodega cat and set him loose on a slip mat with an image worthy of Looney Tunes.
Fun, right??
You'll notice that in this image Boogie has 2 perfectly normal cat ears which represents a time before he was trapped, neutered and returned to the streets. How did we go from fun-loving to neutered? Well, the life of Bronx street cat has a lot of twists and turns!
Without getting into a full origin story (coming soon) what you need to know is that there are organizations dedicated to "fixing" cats so they don't overrun our cities and towns through constant procreation. Two such orgs in The Bronx are Bronx Tails Cat Rescue and Bronx Community Cats. Once a cat is neutered or spayed, the vet cuts off the tip of their ear so they aren't trapped again and put through unnecessary surgery. With 2 full ears, this is Boogie pre-trapping.
Annnnd just as quickly as we brought him to life on a slip mat, we grabbed him, skinned him and threw him on a skate board for our From The BX Forever Skater tee! The skate design is from a later part of his life. Aside from the lack of skin, you'll notice he's also missing the tip of his left ear. He's been neutered! C'est La Vie!
But don't worry. Take a breath. It's all good. The Bronx is forever and so is Boogie The Cat! Cats have 9 lives and Boogie is guaranteed to return for years to come.
Keep an eye out for future Boogie designs and maybe even an origin story!
