Batman Was Born in The Bronx: Batman Day 2026 at Poe Park
Here's a fact that surprises people who think they know The Bronx: Batman was born here. Bill Finger and Bob Kane dreamed up the Dark Knight on a bench in Poe Park in 1939, which is why the corner of Grand Concourse and East 192nd Street is now Bill Finger Way.
On Saturday, September 19, that park filled up with capes for the 2nd annual Batman Day: The Bronx, a free, family-friendly celebration organized by We Are Detectives, Inc. with The Bronx County Historical Society, and From The Bronx was proud to sponsor it.

He's home.
The day connects three Bronx stories at once: the legacy of Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the detective stories of Edgar Allan Poe, who wrote some of his most famous work in the cottage right there in the park, and We Are Detectives' mission of teaching kids critical thinking and problem-solving. From 1 to 5 PM there was live music, interactive learning stations, a "Listen Like a Detective: Hip Hop Edition" trivia challenge, guided Poe Cottage tours, giveaways, and costumes everywhere you looked.

This year more than doubled last year's crowd. The Bronx showed up. Batman fans showed up. Bill Finger fans showed up. Poe fans showed up. And of course the Detectives showed up.

The Stations
The Activity Passport was the engine of the day. Kids got one at the info table, worked their way through six stations (critical thinking, a memory challenge, a Build It station hosted by Home Depot, creative arts with Bronx Heroes, Bat Fit fitness with FullSpectrum Fitness, and Poe Cottage tours with The Bronx County Historical Society), got checked off at each one, and turned it back in to be entered to win prizes. Discover. Solve. Empower.

The Merch
Behind the scenes, this was a From The Bronx production. Our own Derick Ramirez designed the Batman Day: The Bronx 2026 artwork, and we produced the event tees, the caps, the buttons, the postcards, the Activity Passports, and the feather flags that marked every station in the park. Anthony is an enormous Batman fan, so this one didn't feel like work.

Thank you to Alex Gil and the whole We Are Detectives team for building something The Bronx can call its own, and to every family who came out in costume. Same bench, same park, next year.
