Historic News: The Bronx Children's Museum is Officially "CIGnified!"

Historic News: The Bronx Children's Museum is Officially "CIGnified!"

We're still beaming from The Bronx Children's Museum's event, "CIGnified: A Bronx Celebration!"

On October 29, 2025, history was made in The Bronx. The Bronx Children's Museum (BxCM) celebrated its official induction into the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) of New York City. This is a monumental achievement! BxCM is the FIRST Bronx institution to receive this designation in 47 years, joining the ranks of the city's most established cultural treasures.

The Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) is a unique public-private partnership dating back to 1869, where the City supports facilities while private nonprofits manage programs and collections. Today, this coalition unites a diverse range of museums, zoos, and performing arts centers across all five boroughs, all committed to making culture, history, and science accessible to every New Yorker.

This milestone is especially personal for our team. From The Bronx co-owner Paul Ramirez serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the museum and had the honor of speaking at the event. In this leadership role, Paul works alongside the Board President and Executive Director to guide the museum's strategic vision, champion fundraising efforts, and ensure the organization remains deeply connected to the needs of our community. Seeing the museum evolve from a "museum without walls" (a purple bus traveling the borough!) to a permanent CIG member has been a journey of passion, grit, and unwavering community support.

The "CIGnified" celebration filled the museum with energy as the museum honored its dedicated Legacy Board Members and leaders like Founding Executive Director Carla Precht and current Executive Director Denise Rosario Adusei, whose vision made this day possible. Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson was even on hand to present a proclamation declaring October 29th "Bronx Children's Museum Day."

Guests, including partners, municipal leaders, and families, enjoyed a night of graffiti art workshops with Tats Cru, beatbox sessions with The Academy of Noise and large-format group games. The night was a perfect reflection of the joy the museum brings to our children every day.

Their induction into CIG ensures that the Bronx Children's Museum will have the permanent city funding and support needed to serve Bronx families for generations to come.
